Hyattsville man indicted on first-degree murder charge

A Hyattsville man charged with murder in the fatal shooting of another Hyattsville man in Dayton in May was indicted by a Howard County grand jury last week, the State's Attorney's office announced this week.

Ismael Guerra Vasquez, 36, of the 1400 block of 14th Street was indicted on first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and a felony handgun charge on June 18 in connection with the May 23 death of Rodolfo Miguel Cervantes, 31, of Hyatsville.

Cervantes was found dead in an outbuilding on a property in the 4900 block of Ten Oaks Road in Dayton at approximately 3 p.m. that day, according to Howard County police.

Police said they had been called to the area for shots fired.

Vasquez was identified after a witness delivered a description of a suspect vehicle that matched a vehicle he was driving, police said.

Police said the two men knew each other and had "a brief confrontation."

Vasquez is being held without bond at Howard County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in court on July 21.
