SHA to hold public meeting Sept. 18 on Route 32 improvements

The Maryland State Highway Administration will hold a public informational meeting Wednesday, Sept. 18 to explain and receive input on safety improvements along two stretches of Route 32.

The affected sections are from Old Frederick Road (MD 99) to Amberwoods Way and from Day Road to West Friendship Road.

From Day Road to West Friendship Road, the SHA has construction funds to widen an approximately one-mile stretch of road to accommodate:

  • A continuous center turn lane,
  • Full-width shoulders
  • Acceleration and deceleration lanes at the two intersections

Construction work will begin in late spring 2014.

From Old Frederick Road to Amberwoods Way, the SHA has funds to design and engineer the following improvements:

  • Deceleration lanes at several intersections
  • Full-width shoulders
  • Widening the existing center turn lane

No construction funds have yet been allocated for this second project.

Additionally, the full-width shoulders for both projects will be designated as bicycle lanes.

The meeting is from 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department in Sykesville.
