The Lions scored at least one run in every inning, while pounding out 29 hits, to earn an opening round win over the Wildecats.

Courtney Merson had five hits to pace the offense, while Katie Wilkinson (double, HR, 6 RBI) was right behind her with four hits. Taylor McGrann, Wilkinson, Alli Jakubek, Julie Barnhouse, Kayli Paugh, Abby Walsh and Cailey Tolson all had doubles.

Wilde Lake put up runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, senior Kourtney Harrison blasted a triple to the leftfield fence, plating sophomores Hailey Setley and Marissa Sciabarra (both reached on walks). Then in the fifth, sophomore Amber Love and senior Mel Anderson both singled and ended up being driven in by junior Brittany Kuntz and a single by Setley.

Junior pitcher Alex Herschman came one hit away from a perfect game, facing 15 batters and striking out 13 of them. She also led the team offensively by going 3-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Junior first baseman Kaya Roberts went 2-3 with a run scored and a RBI, senior Melanie Berger went 2-3 with 2 RBI and sophomore Amanda Petersen went 2-2 with a run scored and 2 RBI.

Gina D’Asto also stole her 18th base of the season for the Raiders. Atholton advances to face third-seeded River Hill on Monday.
