A Prince George's County Police officer was involved in a single car accident at Route 1 and Contee Road around 2 a.m. Monday.
According to police, the on-duty officer was driving a marked SUV when it struck a curb while turning from Route 1 onto Contee Road, then flipped over and hit a lamp post. The lamp post damaged several unoccupied parked cars when it fell, police said.
Speed and weather contributed to the accident, police said, and the officer, a two-year-veteran, was treated at a hospital and released.
