Summer is officially upon us though we have had a wet and rainy start. The West Laurel Swim Club is open for business. The water looks enticing and when it's not raining, it has been packed with families having a great time. Lots of summertime memories are made there. If you are not a member, stop by the main desk and ask about how you can join. The Wahoos have been swimming and are ready for competition. Let the races begin!
Bond Mill Elementary School said goodbye to staff members who are retiring. First, after 25 years in the office as a registrar, principal assistant, and the go-to person for most everything, Sandee Leibson will be experiencing the joys of retirement but many will miss her. Sandee has touched the lives of a couple of generations of Bond Mill families. They love her as much as she cares about them. Principal Justin FitzGerald and his staff are very sad as they say goodbye to a very competent and hard-working colleague and a cherished friend as well.
Kindergarten teacher extraordinaire, Donna Edwards Henry, has also retired from the Prince George's County Public School System after 25 years of service. She has helped shape the lives of over a thousand children and their families. Her competence, calmness and patience have positively given our little people a firm educational and loving foundation.
Congratulations to Francis Moran on graduating from St. Mary's College of Maryland with a double major in economics and history. Francis achieved dean's list and received Maryland Senatorial and Delegate scholarships. He served as senator on the Student Government, president of the Student Investment Group, treasurer for the Rugby Club, and founded a student Golf Club. Francis held legislative internships with the St. Mary's County Chamber of Commerce and Jon S. Frank and Associates. Now that he is back in Laurel, he will continue to serve the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus and begin his career as a management trainee with Mariner Finance in Laurel. Francis has always lived in West Laurel with his proud parents, Cecile and Mike Moran, and brothers Barry and Donald.
