Come one, come all! The Bond Mill PTO Carnival is Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a huge West Laurel event and everyone is invited to join the fun. There are rides and games with awesome prizes for the youngsters and plenty of gift certificates and prizes to be won and auctioned for the older crowd who want to have fun, too. The Pocket Lady, a long-standing tradition, gives out Homework Passes and you can win a homemade cake at the famous Cake Walk. There is a Bake Sale and lots of food served for a family picnic all day. Do you have game? Win big at hoops; take the challenge. See how high you can climb the wall or moon bounce the day away. The Bond Mill Elementary School parents and volunteers have planned and worked for an entire year to make this year's carnival even better than last year's carnival. Bond Mill is nestled in the hub of our community on Sherwood Avenue. Come on out and experience a school carnival that is like no other!
This is just a reminder that the Prince George's County Department of Environmental Resources will no longer accept yard waste such as grass, leaves and sticks in plastic bags. Residents must now bag their yard waste in paper bags or use reusable containers with handles and lids marked Yard Waste.
Tell your neighbors and friends that it's time to register your 5 year olds for kindergarten now! Mark your calendars. The West Laurel Civic Association 2014 spring General Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the West Laurel Community Building.
West Laurel mourns the loss of Chuck Lavin who passed away in April after a long illness. He was very active in our community and, more importantly, was always willing to lend a hand with his big, famous smile and heart. He served as president of the West Laurel Recreation Council, Post Commander of American Legion Post 60, president of the Antonio Gatto Sons of Italy, and was an active St. Mary of the Mills parishioner. Our sympathy goes to Chuck's wife, Eileen, and his children and grandchildren.
