Bond Mill DI team places first in regional, second in state competition [West Laurel]
Bond Mill's Destination Imagination Team of seven fourth-graders, Haley Bateman, Grace Beck, Kenny Graninger, Marcus Jones, Amy Lepore, Peyton Ridgely and Michael Stroud, won first place in the regional Destination Imagination competition and moved on to the state competition. At the regional level, the cast of seven competed in an engineering creative problem-solving challenge. They had to research a technology that detects something humans can't with their five senses. Haley and Grace were the object placement specialists; and Michael detected objects as well as composed the lyrics and music of a song, which he played on his saxophone while the young scientists sang along. Peyton removed objects; Kenny was the artist; Marcus was the conveyor belt specialist; Amy was the evil scientist and all of them had a part in the play about saving the earth's environment and the ozone layer. It was a delight to see the up and coming environmentalists and engineers of the future. Teachers Donna Albrecht, who was team manager, and Chantel Collins spent countless hours preparing and guiding the team. Bond Mill's Destination Imagination Team came in second overall in the state of Maryland competition on April 5 and has now progressed to the Global Competition in Tennessee. Go Bulldogs!
