After Pallotti's Ryan Centorbi picked up the win in relief against Mount Carmel Tuesday with four scoreless innings, Pallotti baseball coach Pat Courtemanche wanted to see what the junior could do in a starting role.
It's likely Centorbi will get another shot to start after leading Pallotti to a 7-3 victory over host Boys' Latin with a solid effort Friday in an Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference game.
Cenorbi worked 5 2/3 innings, giving up eight hits and three earned runs while striking out six batters.
"He threw strikes today," Courtemanche said. "He has a good fastball, slider and curve."
Pallotti's best offensive performances came from Ryan Basile (2-for-3, 3 RBIs), Colin Burns (two runs scored, RBI) and Coi Cottone (single, two runs scored).
Freddy Bopst (2-for-3, 2 RBIs, double), Skylar Morris (2-for-3, walk) and Peter Argo (2-for-4) led Boys' Latin.
Pallotti (12-5 overall, 8-3 league) jumped on the Lakers for three runs in the first inning.
Nico Marchetti walked, Cottone reached on an infield single and Burns was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Basile drove in all three Panthers with a double over the left fielder.
"We have been getting behind too often this season," Boys' Latin coach Bill Greenwell said. "It takes us out of our game. When you are behind, you can't be as aggressive as you would like to be."
The Panthers (7-8, 5-5) answered with a run in the bottom of the first. Morris singled to left field with one out and Bopst drove him in with a double to the right-field gap.
Pallotti scored two more runs in the fifth inning of left-handed starter Harris Lipinski, who yielded six unearned runs on seven hits in seven innings. He struck out seven and walked three.
Sikorski and Colin Burns highlighted the inning with run-scoring singles.
Boys' Latin cut the lead to 7-2 in the fifth on Bopst's infield single, which knocked in Devin Foudos.
The Lakers added a run in the sixth when they chased Centorbi, who loaded the bases and was replaced by Robert Colvin.
Colvin got the save by pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
