2,000 trout added to Laurel Lakes, Patuxent

Over 2,000 trout were added to the Patuxent River and Laurel Lakes for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources' Spring 2017 Trout Stocking Schedule.

According to city officials, 1,400 trout were added to the Patuxent River, while 700 trout were placed in Laurel Lakes at Granville Gude Park. Fishermen, who are 16 years or older, will need fishing licenses to fish in those locations.

The announcement comes in time for the city of Laurel's Casting with Cops event on April 22, where participants can catch and release fish alongside Laurel police officers from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Laurel Lakes.

Admission is free, but anglers 16 years or older must have a valid Maryland fishing license, which can be purchased at Bass Pro Shops or online at compass.dnr.maryland.gov.

There will be raffles and a prize for the largest catch of the day.

For more information on fishing license requirements, go to the Department of Natural Resources' website dnr.maryland.gov.
