Tower Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Laurel, received the Trailblazer Award for Excellence in Marketing and Communication for Best Overall Marketing Campaign from the Maryland and D.C. Credit Union Association. Tower won first place among credit unions that have more than $500 million in assets.

The award-winning campaign focused on the credit union's 2012 outreach to members about the Home Affordability Refinance Program, a federal program that helps homeowners who are underwater on their mortgage refinance their homes. Prior to the government's rollout of the second phase of HARP in March 2012, Tower reached out to a targeted group of members through direct mail letters and emails, newsletter articles, monthly statement inserts and website ads.

Tower has won several Trailblazer awards, including Best Marketing Campaign for the past four consecutive years, Best Website and Best Member Newsletter.
