Drivers on Route 1 in South Laurel will be facing lane closings the next two weekends as the State Highway Administration carries out excavation and paving work along Route 1 from Contee Road to Muirkirk Road. The road work is part of the last segment of the Intercounty Connector project.
SHA officials said the two weekends of lane closures will begin midnight Friday, Dec. 5, weather permitting.
The right lane of southbound Route 1 from Contee Road to Muirkirk Road is scheduled to be closed tonight so crews can excavate, pour concrete and pave the surface. The lane is expected to be open by noon Sunday. Then on Friday, Dec. 13, the left southbound lane of Route 1 will be closed at 3 p.m., and the left northbound lane of Route 1 will be closed at 6 p.m. for the same work. Both lanes should reopen by noon on Sunday, Dec. 15, SHA officials said.
