Laurel police chase ends in Washington, D.C.

A 22-milechase by Laurel police ended with the arrest of a Laurel man early Wednesday morning in Washington, D.C.

City spokeswoman Audrey Barnes said Laurel police arrested Paul Pattison, 48, who was taken to the Prince George's County Detention Center for a bond hearing before the court commissioner.

Barnes said the car chase began around midnight Tuesday when police recognized a white SUV, and its tags, from another crime last month. After the SUV driver initially pulled over during a traffic stop, Barnes said, the driver took off onto the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

"He took off as the officer approached the vehicle," Barnes said. "Initially, there appeared to be some open warrants against him from Calvert County. ... There are currently no open warrants against him."

U.S. Park Police later joined the chase, she said. Police successfully stopped the SUV in the 2900 block of P Street, S.E., where the man was arrested.

Pattison is facing several traffic and criminal charges.
