Laurel is one of 217 cities throughout the country that earned recognition as a Playful City USA by the Humana Foundation. This is Laurel's fifth consecutive yearly recognition.
The Humana Foundation's Playful City USA program honors cities and towns that include access to play as part of their local action plans.
In announcing this year's award, Mayor Craig Moe gave credit to Laurel City Council members and the staff of the city's Department of Parks and Recreation for their work and planning in support of creating play opportunities for the community. The city has 19 outdoor park areas that cover more than 200 acres of land and include playgrounds, parks, ball fields, trails and tennis and basketball courts.
