Prince George's County Public Schools CEO Kevin Maxwell has created a transition team to review the school system.

Maxwell, who was named CEO by County Executive Rushern Baker III this summer, has charged the transition team with reviewing the operations of the school system and identifying strengths and areas that need additional attention. The team will also review communication practices, resource alignment and the organizational structure of the system.

Thirty-two people, representing various school system stakeholders, and local and national education experts, make up the team, including Laurel High School Principal Dwayne Jones, who is acting in his capacity as president of the Association of Supervisory and Administrative School Personnel, the union for county school administrators and supervisors. The team is co-chaired by State Superintendent Lillian Lowery and Prince George's Community College President Charlene Dukes.

"This transition team will help me to determine the needs for the district and the appropriate next steps as it relates to key areas of school operations," Maxwell said in a news release announcing the team.

The team's first meeting was on Monday, Oct. 21. It will meet through December and present the Board of Education with a transition report and recommendations for next steps.
