Public forum set for 2015 Prince George's Public Schools budget

Prince George's County Public Schools is holding a public hearing Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Sasscer Administration Building in Upper Marlboro, to gain community input on the upcoming fiscal year 2015 operating budget.

According to a release from the school system, next year's budget will focus on funding student needs, supporting employees, continued investment in innovative programs and continued fiscal stability. The school system's 2014 operating budget totaled $1.687 billion.

To register to speak, call 301-952-6001 by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15. Each person registered will have two minutes to speak on the budget. Online feedback will also be accepted until Oct. 31. Comments can be submitted at pgcps.org.

Superintendent Kevin Maxwell will present a final operating budget recommendation to the Board of Education in December. The board's final request will go before County Executive Rushern Baker III on March 1, 2014.
