Additional charges have been made against one of two men indicted in the death of Prince George's County Police Officer Adrian Morris, of Laurel. Morris died in August after his cruiser crashed during a police chase on Interstate 95 in Beltsville.
Kevon Neal and Kenneth Mitchell were previously charged with theft over $10,000 and related charges. Neal has now also been charged with vehicular manslaughter and fleeing and eluding, Prince George's County Chief of Police Mark Magaw and Prince George's State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks announced Thursday.
According to Prince George's County Police, Morris and a second officer were investigating an attempted theft at the West Laurel Shell Aug. 20, which led to a car chase and, ultimately, Morris' death. Police said Morris, who was driving, apparently lost control of his cruiser and drove into a ditch near Power Mill Road in Beltsville. Morris was ejected from the police cruiser; police said Morris was not wearing his seat belt.
Mitchell, of Washington, was arrested Aug. 22. Neal turned himself in to county police on Aug. 23. Neal is being held at the Prince George's County Department of Corrections and Mitchell is being held in the District of Columbia.
