New deputy superintendent named for Prince George's schools

Monique Whittington Davis has been named deputy superintendent of schools, Prince George's County Public Schools announced this week.

Davis will work under Prince George's new chief executive officer, Kevin Maxwell, who took the helm of the system this month. She will oversee the departments of academics, human resources and performance management, as well as all of the associate superintendents in the county.

Davis is a graduate of Bowie High School, and has worked in education for more than 20 years, working as a teacher and administrator in the county before moving to Anne Arundel County Public Schools in 2010. Most recently, she was regional assistant superintendent in that system, where she worked with Maxwell during his time as Anne Arundel superintendent.

"I am very pleased to have Dr. Davis join us," Maxwell said in a news release announcing the appointment. "She brings a deep understanding of our school system and possesses the vision to move our students toward higher achievement."
