Two arrested in car chase resulting in death of Ofc. Adrian Morris

Prince George's County Police have arrested two men they say were occupants of the car connected to the fatal crash on I-95 Aug. 20 that killed Ofc. Adrian Morris, of Laurel.

Kenneth Clark Mitchell, 24, of the 5300 block of Clay Terrace in Washington, was arrested Aug. 22.

Kevon Darnell Neal, 23, of the 3400 block of Gennene Lane, in Fort Washington, turned himself in to Prince George's County Police on Aug. 23.

Both are charged with felony theft for the stolen car involved in the crash. Police said the Acura involved in the crash was recovered early Tuesday, Aug. 21 in Washington, and the State's Attorney's Office will pursue additional charges in the case.

State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said one of the additional charges being looked at is vehicular manslaughter, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.

According to Prince George's County Police, Morris and a second officer, Officer Michael Risher, were investigating an attempted theft at the West Laurel Shell at 6600 Sandy Spring Road (Route 198 westbound) Aug. 20, which led to a car chase and, ultimately, Morris' death.

While Morris and Risher were interviewing witnesses outside the gas station, an employee noticed the suspect vehicle, a gray Acura, return to the gas station, police said.

Police said the officers chased the two men in the car onto Interstate 95 southbound, and apparently caught up with it and had communicated with the police dispatcher.

Police said Morris, who was driving, apparently lost control of his cruiser and drove into a ditch near Powder Mill Road in Beltsville.

Morris was ejected from the police cruiser, police said, and was pronounced dead at a local hospital after sustaining massive head injuries. Risher was released from the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said Morris was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the incident, and Risher, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was wearing his seat belt.
