Believe it or not, school starts in less than two weeks, so please be cautious as you navigate area streets during arrival and dismissal time.
Also, parents, let your students who walk to school know how important it is for them to cross where the crossing guards are located. Even though it may be a little out of the way, it is the safest place for them and you to cross.
The first day of school in Anne Arundel County Public Schools for students in grades one through five, six and nine is Monday, Aug. 26. All other middle and high school students report on Aug. 27. Kindergarten and full-day pre-kindergarten students start on a staggered schedule on Aug. 28 to 30. The school will send a letter letting you know what day your kindergartner or preschooler should report to school.
Brock Bridge Elementary School invites all students to attend a Meet & Greet on Aug. 22, from 2 to 3 p.m., followed by an ice cream social. Come out to meet your new teacher for the year and check out your classroom.
While visiting, don't forget to join the PTA for this school year to show your student how important their school success is to you. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors; anyone can join. Introduce yourself to Brock Bridge's returning PTA president, Julie Hummer, during the Meet & Greet. Brock Bridge also reminds all kindergarten parents about the kindergarten parent conferences being held Aug. 26 and Aug 27. A letter will be sent home showing your conference date and time.
Maryland City Elementary School also invites its students out for an Ice Cream Social on Aug. 22, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Meet your teacher, visit your classroom, drop off your school supplies and enjoy some ice cream.
The pool moves into its final weeks as many start to dread the end of summer. What is the best way to beat the blues?
My suggestion: don't miss out on the Pool Movie Nights over the next two weekends. Kids Movie Night (ages 10 and under) is tonight, Aug. 15, and the Youth Movie Night (ages 11-17) is Thursday, Aug. 22. Enjoy the pool early and then hang around for a movie beginning at 8 p.m. The cost is $2 for members and $5 for their guests.
A Youth Super Nacho Night is Friday, Aug. 16, and costs $5 for members and $7 for guests. Adult Grill and Movie Night is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 17 from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Bring your own main course to cook on the grill, and the pool provides the rest of the meal. Cost is $5 for members and guests.
Finally, enjoy the last night before school starts at the Family Cookout Potluck on Aug. 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. Bring a side dish or dessert to share and the club provides the hamburgers and hot dogs. Cost is $4 for members and $6 for guests. Contact Suzanne at 301-725-9831 for more information.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
