The Lovely Ladies of Laurel, or L3, has started its programming for the 2013-14 school year, with meetings every Monday from 6:30-7:45 p.m. at Laurel High School. The meetings have an open-door policy and the public is welcome.

The organization is currently looking for guest speakers and sponsors for the year. If interested, contact Celeste Hill at celeste@lovelyladiesoflaurell3.org.

This year, 25 young women from Laurel-area schools have joined the nonprofit organization, including students from Bowie High for the first time. L3 provides mentoring services to the young women and through workshops and community service, promotes responsibility, respect and academic rigor.

L3 will hold the L3 5K on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 9 a.m. at Laurel Lakes, to raise awareness and funds in the fight against breast cancer. Registration is $10 and starts at 8 a.m. the day of the race. To register online, go to lovelyladiesoflaurell3.org. Proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
