Sara Walser's column from South Laurel gave a great tribute to our retiring priest friend, Jesuit Frank Gignac. Why would Fr. Frank make the trek to St. Nicholas Church, from Catholic University to Contee Road, nearly every weekend for 35 years? Well, let us tell you about our church.

Any weekend we celebrate Mass four times – 5 p.m. Saturday and on Sunday at 8, 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Attend any Mass and you will find people from all over the world.

We began 46 years ago here in South Laurel, founded principally by people of European descent, then came African Americans, followed soon after by families from the Philippines. Now in recent years we have welcomed people from Palestine, the Islands, India, at least six African nations and others. All can find a home here where we worship together and support one another with many endeavors to better our community and care for those in need.

Why not come visit us this summer and check us out? We have different kinds of music at every Mass and wonderful priests to serve us. It is our hope that by the beginning of the fall, you will find that you would like to be a part of a community like St. Nicholas and join us, either renewing your Catholic commitment to your faith or finding faith in our loving God in a new way.
