The city of Laurel installed speed registers that indicate the speed of oncoming traffic approaching Laurel High School and posted before the actual speed cameras. After a year of data, it would be appropriate to check the data to determine if the registers had an impact on accidents and the number of tickets issued.
If the number of tickets at this location declined from the previous period and the number of accidents were reduced or negated, in the interest of safety for the children, it would seem logical to post these speed registers at all schools in Laurel. The city should be commended for implementing the use of speed registers at the high school and should now go the next step to assure the citizens the safety of children is paramount to the city of Laurel.
