The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Prince George's County through 9:15 p.m. Friday, and the MARC commuter lot at Laurel American Legion Post 60 was closed all day because of raised water levels from excess water released at Duckett Dam by WSSC.
WSSC began releasing water through Duckett Dam to help stabilize water levels, city officials said in a release Thursday.
The MARC commuter lot that faces Route 1, and the commuter lot that face Lafayette Avenue remained open Friday.
The heavy rain hitting Laurel and the surrounding area is coming as Tropical Storm Andrea moves through the region and heads north along the I-95 corridor. Officials with AAA Mid-Atlantic today warned that local motorists could encounter hazardous driving conditions during the evening commute, including heavy winds, torrential rains and flooding, which they described as "squally driving conditions."
