A Laurel man is under arrest and facing attempted murder and other charges after allegedly striking a man with his car over a cell phone dispute, Howard County Police reported Friday.

According to a police report, Travon Millar, 21, of Covered Wagon Drive, got into an altercation with a 64-year-old man at PW's Sports Bar and Grille, located on the 9800 block of Washington Boulevard (Route 1) in North Laurel Friday morning.

The victim, who hasn't been identified by police, went to the bar Friday morning to see if anyone had turned in his cell phone from the night before, the report stated.

After being told the phone had not been turned in, the victim called the phone and a man answered. The man on the phone, who police said was Millar, said he would return the phone to the bar's parking lot for an unspecified amount of money, police said.

According to police, Millar arrived at the bar and allegedly threw the victim to the ground. A witness then grabbed Millar in order to prevent him from further harming the victim.

Millar agreed to calm down and asked to be able to park his car, police said. The victim and the witness were standing in front of Millar's vehicle to prevent him from driving away as he still had the victim's phone, police said.

According to the police report, Millar allegedly accelerated his vehicle and drove toward the victim and the witness. The witness was able to jump out of the way, but the victim was struck by the car, running him over with one of the driver's side tires, police said.

The vehicle then sped out of the parking lot and headed south on Route 1 toward downtown Laurel, police said.

When Howard County Police arrived on the scene at approximately 9 a.m., the victim was unconscious.

A description of the vehicle, a Honda Accord, was given to Laurel Police, who stopped Millar at the parking lot of the Laurel Mall. Millar was taken into custody and transported to Howard County Police headquarters.

The victim was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma and is listed in stable condition.

Millar is charged with two counts each of first- and second-degree attempted murder; first- and second-degree assault; destruction of property; failing to stay at the scene of a motor vehicle accident with injury; and several traffic offenses.
