The Prince George's County Police Department will hold a Gift Cards for Guns event Saturday, Dec. 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Tabernacle Church, 11601 South Laurel Drive.
According to a release from the police, the event, one of two scheduled this month, is being held to reduce gun violence in Prince George's County.
Gun owners who turn in their guns will receive gift cards up to $150. Guns do not need to be functional, police said, and should be unloaded and in the truck of a vehicle. Ammunition can also be turned in, but no BB or pellet guns will be accepted.
The event is also supported by County Council member Mary Lehman, Prince George's County NAACP, the county's Youth Strategies Division and Prince George's Hospital Center.
Police will hold a second Gift Cards for Guns turn-in Saturday, Dec. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Glenarden, 3600 Brightseat Road, in Landover.
