First Generation College Bound was named one of the best community-based charities in the Greater Washington area in the 2013-14 Catalogue for Philanthropy.
FGCB was one of the 74 charities in the region selected for the 11th annual catalog, which highlights local nonprofit organizations and connects them with community members, donors and volunteers.
In November, 25,000 people in the region will receive copies of the publication.
"Donors know they can trust the catalogue to help them make smart decisions about local nonprofits where their contributions will really make a difference," Catalogue for Philanthropy President Barbara Harman said in a news release.
Since 2003, the Catalogue for Philanthropy in Washington, D.C., has raised more than $21 million for featured nonprofits.
For 23 years, FGCB has helped students become the first in their family to attend college by providing academic support, mentoring and guidance through the college admissions process.
