College students from Laurel achieve academic awards and graduation [College news]

William Tingley, of Laurel, was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Champlain College in Burlington, Vt.

The following students from Laurel were initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines: Ellen Eldridge, Stephanie Carter, Laura Carey, Anthony Kazzi and Ayaba Sanvee, all initiated at University of Maryland University College; Caleb Heidel, Yoon Kim, Nora Mitnick and Eric Schuler, all initiated into the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campuses chapter; and Angelica Li and Christopher Knocke, both initiated at University of Maryland, College Park.

The following students from Laurel were awarded dean's list academic honors for the fall semester at St. Mary's College in St. Mary's City: Samuel Besse, Rosemary Ligsay, Melanie MacDonald, Fernando Maldonado, Hailey Rector, Kyle VanWinter and Rebecca Webster.

Helen Feeser, of Laurel, was presented an Outstanding Senior Award from the department of communications studies at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Va. Feeser, a communications studies major with a minor in Spanish, is a member of the Philomathes Society, Bridgewater's scholastic honor society; Lambda Pi Eta, a national communications honor society; and Alpha Mu Gamma, a national foreign language honor society. She completed internships in the Bridgewater College office of marketing and communications and with Bridgewater's Convocation program.

Sophomore Kevlyn Moscoso, of Laurel, received a Duke of Edinburgh bronze award at McDaniel College in Westminster. The Duke of Edinburgh silver and bronze awards are given to students who completed a four-step self-development program dedicated to achievement in community service, physical fitness, special skills and adventurous journey.

Elisabeth Hittle Simmons, from Laurel, was awarded an Anne E. Beyer Certificate for outstanding student teaching by Millersville University in Millersville, Pa.

Mark Comberiate graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's in film production from Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tenn. He is the son of Michael Comberiate, of Highland, and Karla Comberiate, of Columbia.
