The Business and Professional Women of Maryland's annual conference is May 17 and 18 at the Holiday Inn Laurel-West, 15101 Sweitzer Lane. The theme of the conference is "The Power of YOU - Equality, Advocacy, Development!"
Several conference events are open to the public, including the kick off luncheon with a focus on women in the military; the Individual Development Program sessions on public speaking and goal setting; and the Saturday luncheon with a panel discussing human trafficking.
Kick off luncheon is Friday, May 17 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Chesapeake Room. Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Wilma Vaught, a driving force behind the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at the gateway to Arlington National Cemetery, will speak on the future of women in the military. Cost is $30.
Nancy Werner, past state president of BPW/Pennsylvania, will facilitate two modules from BPW's Individual Development Program on Friday, May 17: Public Speaking – Stand Up and Speak Out! from 2-4 p.m.; and Travel to the Stars Workshop – Setting Goals from 7:15 to 9 p.m. The workshops are free; an optional buffet dinner between the workshops, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., costs $30. One-on-one mentoring will be offered free for non-BPW members from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The luncheon Saturday, May 18 is from noon to 2 p.m. in the Potomac Room. Cost is $35. Saturday's lunch will be followed by a guest speaker panel on the topic of human trafficking. Jennifer Jones, chair of the Prince George's County Commission for Women, is one of the four panelists.
Vendors will be available to the public Saturday, May 18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the ballroom foyer.
