Two Laurel men face murder charges in connection with the death of their roommate who police found dead in a bag in another part of the city.

Santos Leonel Mejia-Yanes, 32, of Finsbury Court in Laurel, and Bayron Cruz-Vargas, 34, of the same address, both face first-degree murder charges. Mejia-Yanes also faces a second-degree murder charge and is being held at the department of corrections without bonds.

Police say he has admitted to his involvement in the death of his roommate, Jacinto Perez.

Cruz-Vargas faces first-degree assault and other charges, police said. Police have a warrant for his arrest.

At approximately 9:20 a.m. on Aug. 24, police were called to the 8800 block of Enfield Court for a body found in a bag, police said. Once on scene, officers found a second bag with body parts in it, police said.

Perez, who lived with Mejia-Yanes and Cruz-Vargas in Finsbury Court, was identified as the victim, police said.

Police said the investigation revealed the three men got into an argument inside the apartment and that it ultimately turned violent, resulting in the death of Perez.
