One thing is clear when looking at the eight oldest businesses in Laurel - family plays the most important role. All of the businesses included here have not only served the Laurel community for 50 years or more, but all have been handed down through the generations.These businesses and others where honored by Mayor Craig Moe and the City Council last year during a ceremony at City Hall.

87 Years - A. M. Kroop & Sons
Randy Kroop is a fourth-generation shoe maker in her family and now operates A.M. Kroop & Sons on C Street, where her dog, Chloe, keeps her company. The family business opened in Laurel in 1926, but dates back 93 years to when Randy Kroop's grandfather, Adolph Michael Kroop, moved to America from Latvia, bringing his shoe making skills with him.
