A woman who apparently had a medical condition while driving on westbound Route 198 near Eighth Street Wednesday was transferred to Maryland Shock Trauma by a state police helicopter after her car flipped over around 1 p.m.
City spokesman Pete Piringer said the woman, who was the only person in the car, lost control of her vehicle, the car hit the curb and a tree and then flipped over near the eastbound lanes of Route 198. Emergency responders stabilized the vehicle and removed the woman, who was trapped underneath the car.
A Maryland State Police helicopter met emergency transporters at McCullough Field, and the woman, who was not identified, was transferred in serious condition to Shock Trauma, Piringer said.
Route 198 was closed in both directions for about an hour Wednesday afternoon after the crash. Piringer did not know if the woman was a Laurel resident.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
