Donna O’Shea, former principal at Manor View Elementary School, in Fort Meade, has been name principal at Monarch Global Academy Public Contract School, which is scheduled to open this year in Laurel.
The school announced last week that O’Shea, of Severn, would take the helm when the doors open in August. Monarch, like Manor View, is an International Baccalaureate school.
According to a news release from Monarch, O’Shea has been an educator for more than 30 years, including both throughout the United States and abroad. She attended high school in Spain, and received bachelor of arts and master of education degrees from Wichita State University in Kansas. She began her teaching career in Germany.
O’Shea has presented at education workshops around the world and last summer led professional development groups for three weeks in Argentina as part of a year-long Fulbright Administrator Exchange Fellowship.
“I am excited about beginning this new adventure with Monarch Global Academy,” O’Shea, who also was principal at Crofton Elementary School, said in the news release. “I look forward to hiring outstanding teachers to allow us to provide the best possible instructional programs for our students.”
Monarch Academy is currently accepting kindergarten through fifth-grade students for its first school year. Monarch is open to students in the attending attendance areas of Brock Bridge, Maryland City and Jessup elementary schools in Anne Arundel County. For more information, go to monarchcharter.org.
