Laurel woman dies after house fire

The woman seriously injured in an early-morning blaze in North Laurel Thursday has died as a result of her injuries, Howard County police said Friday.

The woman, identified as Kimberly Ann Murphy-Smith, 50, of Canterbury Riding, was rescued from the fire, which occurred at 5:15 a.m. Jan. 16, by fire fighters from Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services. 

She was taken to Laurel Regional Hospital, where she later died, police said. 

The fire was reported by a newspaper delivery person, a department spokeswoman said. Fire officials said they believe the fire was an accident, althoguh it remains under investigation. 

Fire officials estimate damages around $150,000.
