Police identify victims in South Laurel double homicide

Police have identified the couple found dead in their South Laurel apartment May 2 as James Vell Ferguson, 42, and Tina Towler, 45.

Towler's 25-year-old daughter, who has what police described as significant disabilities, was also at the apartment. She was not hurt, police said, and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

No suspect or motive has been established in what Prince George's County Police have ruled a double homicide.

Police were called to the apartment in the 9600 block of Muirkirk Road just after 8 a.m. and found Ferguson and Towler with trauma to their upper bodies; they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a nurse who was assigned to monitor Towler's adult daughter found the victims during a routine visit Thursday morning and called police.

According to police, neighbors reported hearing loud voices at the apartment at 5 a.m.

Ferguson's brother, Paul Young, said his brother "JJ" was sociable, a "real Eddie Murphy."

Police are continuing their investigation and talking to potential witnesses at the apartment complex.
