Reservoir and Hammond High had food drives before the end of the year to help others. It is great to see our students remembering others. Guilford Elementary had a contest with their food drive. When the students brought in their food they placed it in one of three boxes. One marked Redskins, one for Ravens and one for all other teams. What a creative way to get the kids to donate while cheering on their teams.
During the next few months, many churches in our area will be helping with the cold weather shelters in our area. Demands for the local food banks will be high. Why not make a pledge to help out those who need our help.
Has everyone gone over to Savage to see the lights on the bridge? It looks beautiful. The tree on the Carroll Baldwin grounds is decorated as well. Make sure you see them before the season is done.
While you are there, visit the many shops in Savage Mill. There is something for everyone. Also, you have your choice of a few locations to eat at. There is Ram's Head, Factory Grill and Bakery or stop by for a coffee and snack at Bonaparte Breads.
Success in Style now has three locations at the Mill. They have Phil's and Charity's Closet. They are men's and woman's store with quality used clothes. All items are just $5. The operators have also just opened their bridal shop, Cherie Amour, which has some beautiful dresses at wonderfully discounted prices. One dress had a note to the new owner from the old owner. Clearly, they are donated with love. Do not forget the family game store. Not only do they sell games for the entire family to enjoy, but they also host game nights.
I am asking that all my readers make a pledge today with me. If you have a student in school, join the PTA and Boosters. Find a way to support your child's school.
Also, find a way to support the community. We have several community associations needing volunteers. While you are at it, pledge to send me information for my column about something in our community. A birthday or anniversary or maybe your child's Scouting project. We have so many great things happening in our community. Give me the chance to brag about it.
I want to wish my neighbors, Jack and Ginny Bailey, a very happy birthday. Ginny's was at the beginning of the month and Jack's is coming up this week.
For those who celebrate, I wish you a very Merry Christmas. Also, Happy Kwanzaa which starts on Dec. 26 to everyone who is celebrating as well.
