Tis the season! Great ready for some wonderful hometown celebrations.
The Savage Mill and Community Association along with Howard County Recs and Parks and Howard County Tourism will hold their first Bollman Bridge and Holiday tree lighting on Dec. 7. The events will start at 5 p.m. at the Bollman Bridge. Afterwards, head to the Carroll Baldwin Hall for the tree lighting and some light refreshments. Hammond High will provide some music for the event. This should be a must see for all. Look for a visit from Old Saint Nick, too.
Savage is also hosting a house-decorating contest. Judging will be Dec. 9 and there are prizes for the winners. The categories will be Best Nostalgic or Historic, Over the Top and Martha Stewart would be Proud. Prizes will be $200 plus a sign for your yard. There will also be a $500 grand prize for best overall called the Spirit of Christmas. Photos of the homes will be on the Mill's website at http://www.historicsavagemill.com. What a treat for the community to drive though Savage to view the lights.
The 50+ Center at the North Laurel Community Center will hold a Holiday Card Workshop on Dec. 13 at 10:45 a.m. You will learn how to make your own cards for the season. The cost of $7 includes all your materials and instructions. Please register by Dec. 11.
Also, on Dec. 13 at 11 a.m., the center will host Identity Theft and Other Scams. Lila Boor, an investigator with the Howard County Office on Consumer Affairs, and Officer Andre Lingham from the Howard County Police Department will give you tips to protect yourself from being scammed. Hammond High School will hold its Winter Concert on Dec. 9 and 10 in the auditorium.
The Savage Fire Department is selling holiday trees in the Weis Parking Lot on Gorman Road. Come out and support our own.
Hammond High has a one stop holiday event for you. On Dec. 14 at 8 a.m., start out with Breakfast with Santa. Cost is $5 and the children can get their photo with Santa while eating breakfast. Then they can stop by the indoor flea market sponsored by the Diamond Scholars for some shopping, and then get your tree on the way out through the Booster Club.
Wondering about all the changes being made with your children's schools? The PTA Council of Howard County is holding a debate on Common Core at Reservoir High School on Dec. 8, 5 to 8 p.m.
Saturday Night at the Movies at the North Laurel Community Center will be "Elf." The movie will start at 6 p.m. on Dec. 21. The cost is $2 for center members, $4 for non-members and free for 5 and under. The cost includes popcorn and a drink. Come out with the entire family to enjoy this holiday show.
