School starts in a few weeks and orientations are planned for the following dates and times;
Laurel Woods' new-to-the-school student orientation entering grades 1 through 5 on Aug. 22, 8:30 to 9 a.m., followed by an open house 9 to 10 a.m. The kindergarten orientation and open house will be at 2 to 3 p.m. the same day. Class schedules will be posted on Aug. 21 after 3 p.m.
Gorman Crossing's kindergarten orientation is on Aug. 22 starting at 10:30 a.m. The new student orientation for grades 1 through 5, 2 to 3 p.m., is that afternoon.
Forest Ridge's back-to-school night for kindergarten parents only is on Aug. 21, 6:30 to 8 p.m. The kindergarten orientation will be on Aug. 22, 10 to 11 a.m. The new student orientation for grades 1 through 5 is on the Aug. 22 at 1 to 2 p.m. and an open house for everyone 2 to 3 p.m.
Hammond Elementary's kindergarten orientation on Aug. 22 at 10:30 a.m. and the new student orientation the same day at 1:45 p.m.
Fulton Elementary will hold kindergarten orientation on Aug. 22, 10 to 11 a.m., and then new student orientation that same day, 2 to 3 p.m.
Bollman Bridge's pre-k orientation is at 11 to 11:30 a.m. or 11:30 am to noon. The kindergarten orientation is 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. New student orientation will be held at 2 p.m. and an open house for anyone will be hold at 2:30, all on Aug. 22.
Guilford Elementary's orientations and back-to-school nights are all together. Aug. 20 is grades K through 2 and Aug. 21 is grades 3 through 5. The events are 5:15 to 7:30 p.m.
New student and sixth grade orientations at the middle schools will be as follows;
Patuxent Valley Middle will hold orientation on Aug. 22. Last names starting with A-L will meet at 7:45 a.m. and those with last names M-Z will meet at 8:30 a.m.
Murray Hill Middle will hold their orientation on Aug. 21, 12:30 to 2 p.m. followed by an Ice Cream Social, sponsored by the PTA at 2 p.m. Hammond Middle will hold orientation on Aug. 21, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Ninth grade orientation will be held at local high schools on Aug. 21. Reservoir's will start at 9 a.m. Hammond's is 9 to 11 a.m. and Atholton's will be 9 a.m. to noon. Atholton High will also hold a driver's meeting on Aug. 21 and 28 at 7 p.m. This meeting is required in order to obtain a parking permit.
The Howard County Police Department will hold a free VIN etching on Sept. 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Southern District Station at 11226 Scaggsville Road. Officers will etch your VIN number on your car in different locations to mark your car to help with recovery.
