The North Laurel Civic Association's monthly meeting Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at the North Laurel Community Center will feature "Healthy Howard" as guest speaker.
Also planned is a community picnic for Sept. 28 at the High Ridge pavilion at 12:30 p.m. Members are always looking for donations to help with the cost of food.
The next meeting is Sept. 19 and will have Councilwoman Jen Terrasa and the developer of Deer Springs, a development of homes in the High Ridge area.

Resurrection of Our Lord Church and the American Red Cross are hosting a blood drive on Aug. 17 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Blood banks are at a critical low this time of year and your help is desperately needed. Have you signed up for the Savage 7K Run and 1 mile Historic Walk on Sept. 22? The run starts at the Carroll Baldwin Hall at 8:30 a.m. The walk is a guided tour through Historic Savage. September is closer than you think, so if you want a space at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church's annual Yard Sale on Sept. 7, you might want to book your space now. The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Spaces are available for $20 for two and $10 for each additional, with a two space minimum. The school year is coming up soon on Aug. 26. Are you ready? Are all your kids registered for school? Are they thinking of participating in fall sports? High school athletics will start on Aug. 14. New student orientations are on Aug. 22 at the high schools. Other events you might want to check are if your child plans to drive to school, they need to attend the safe driver meeting. Athletics need to have concussion testing. Sign up is now available for SAT's.
Reservoir and Hammond High School's Back to School nights are Aug. 29.
