The Howard County Police once again will hold their Community Athletic Program on Thursdays at the North Laurel Community Center. This program is free for our youth and runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
They have sports gear and video games and lots of activities planned. It is run by the School Resource Officers and kids are invited to just drop by. What a fun way for the kids to interact with our officers. Just come on by the North Laurel Community Center at 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road. The program runs until Aug. 18.
It is that time of year again to start registering for the 7K run and 1 mile Historical Walk in Savage to benefit the Baldwin Hall. The event will be held on Oct. 5 starting at 7:45 a.m. Take a nice run though the town and park or learn about some of the history as you walk around the community on a guided tour. Afterwards, enjoy some treats and music.
The cost is $26 online and $30 by mail or at a pick up point. To register, go to http://www.bullseyerunning.com. Last year, they raised over $4,200, which went to upgrades and improvements to the hall. What a great way to stay fit and to help our community.
The hall has had some major renovations over the past few years, thanks to some supportive community members. Let us continue to support their efforts and raise even more money to keep this landmark in good shape for years to come.
Sign up now for the Savage Boys and Girls Club's Co-Ed Flag Football Program.
There are three age groups, 6-8, 9-11 and 12-14. Kids are evaluated on speed, passing and catching. Practices start in September and are held at Patuxent Middle and Forest Ridge Elementary Schools.
For information about the club or flag football, go to http://www.savagebgc.org or the Facebook Page http://www.facebook.com/savageflag/info.
National Night Out is Tuesday, Aug. 5. There are two events in our community.
The Savage Community Association will hold an ice cream social and cake walk on the Baldwin Commons grounds starting at 6 p.m. The association is collecting school supplies to help students at Bollman Bridge this fall. Some items that they will be collecting are; No. 2 pencils, safety scissors, glue sticks, two-pocket folders, crayons, colored markers, erasers, wide-ruled paper, school box, zippered pencil cases, backpacks, tissues, plastic bags, index cards and sticky notes. Contact the school or association with questions.
There is another at the North Laurel Community Center starting at 6:30 p.m. Both will have music and lots of activities. Come out and join your community and stand up to crime.
Make sure you join your friends at the 50+ Center when they hold their monthly luncheon. On Aug., 8 they will have a soup and salad bar social starting at noon. Cost varies, call for reservations at 410-313-0380.
