Savage Community Association has a yummy treat for you at its meeting. The group will hold their annual Ice Cream Social on Aug. 6 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Baldwin Common. Come out for free ice cream, thanks to Dreyer's Ice Cream Factory, and celebrate National Night Out Against Crime.
The association is also collecting school supplies for disadvantaged children at Bollman Bridge Elementary School. What a great way to show community support. Baldwin Commons is at 9035 Baltimore St.
The Howard County Police Department will also sponsor an evening of events on Aug. 6 at the North Laurel Community Center. There will be live music, a skate park trick contest, police displays and more starting at at 6 pm. For more information, call 410-313-0390.
The North Laurel Civic Association will meet on July 18 at the North Laurel Community Center. Come out and meet your neighbors and find out what is new in the area. The county is rezoning much of Route 1, there are several developments planned in the area and the annual picnic is being planned. Come out and find out what is happening in the area. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
Sign up now for the Savage 7K Run and 1 Mile Historic Walk on Sept. 22. The run starts at the Carroll Baldwin Hall and goes past the Mill through the Savage park and neighborhoods. The walk is a guided tour through Historic Savage. There will be music and treats afterwards.
The proceeds from this event go to help support renovations at the hall. Last year's money helped complete the lower level renovations and this year they hope to raise enough money to support new steps, ramps and railings for the exterior. The 50+ Center in the North Laurel Community Center on Whiskey Bottom Road is holding an All American Pie Contest and Summer Picnic. Starting at 11 a.m. there is a pie-tasting contest. Try a sample of the pies and vote for your favorite. At noon the center will hold a summer lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers. The cost is $3 plus a contribution. St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Route 216 will hold its annual yard sale on Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Spaces are now available for $20 for two and $10 for each additional, with a two space minimum.
