Make your voice heard as the county considers comprehensive rezoning [North/Laurel/Savage]

The North Laurel Civic Association will not meet in June, so why not take the time to follow all the plans the county has with the Comprehensive Rezoning Plan.

The county is adding new zoning and this area will be changed. Now is the time to tell your County Council representative, Jen Terrasa or Greg Fox, about your vision for our area and the county as a whole.

Should we keep the plan for more apartments along Route 1? Should Route 1 be commercial instead? Make your voice heard.

The 50+ Senior Center at the North Laurel Community Center is always planning activities for the community. The center offers activities for those 50 or older. They have a North Laurel Senior Council that meets on the second Tuesday of the month.

Maybe you have some suggestions. If so, contact Michelle Feng, assistant director and let her know what you would like to see them plan. Her number is 410-313-0388.

For July, the center is having two special events for members. On July 9, Medicare Tune Up is from 2 to 3 p.m. This free program will update you on issues like medical equipment, medical supplies and programs.

On July 25 is the All American Pie Contest and Summer Picnic. You don't want to miss this. Starting at 11 a.m., you can taste the pies and vote for your favorite. Then, enjoy a summer lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers at noon. The cost is $3 plus a contribution. For information or to register, call 410-313-0380 for either event. This summer the Howard County Police Department will hold their Mobile Recreation Center on Thursdays at the North Laurel Community Center starting July 1 through Aug. 16, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The program will offer a chance for kids to play board, video and sports activities under a supervised environment. Is your child Movin' Up To Middle School this fall? The Howard County Library offers a program where they can meet classmates, learn positive ways to succeed and work on combination locks. Due to construction at our library, the program will be at the North Laurel Community Center on Aug. 14, 6:30 to 8 p.m. The center is located at 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road. Mark your calendar now for the National Night Out Against Crime. It will be held on Aug. 6 starting at 6 p.m. at the North Laurel Community Center. For more information, call 410-313-0390.
