We should all be proud to have Savanah Shaffer and Caitlin Pettengill as part of our community. They just recently earned their Silver Awards in Girl Scouts.
These two Patuxent Valley Middle students are part of Troop 1491. They have spent almost a year and a half collecting books at their school, their parents work and in the community. They also earned money to purchase three bookshelves.
They delivered the shelves and books to Sarah's House. This houses families who are homeless in the Fort Meade area. They service 35 to 40 families or up to 140 people at any given time. The girls brought cookies and lemonade and then read stories to the children.
The troop supports Sarah's House at Christmas time, coming over to do crafts with their children. When they visited the girls noticed that the children didn't have books to read. Their gift to those in need will be helping others for many years to come. Way to go, Savanah and Caitlin.
Bollman Bridge Elementary School is celebrating its 25th Birthday. Starting March 31, the school will hold a week-long celebration of this milestone. They have encouraged the students to do 25 acts of kindness and will posting what the students did around the school. They will also hold a donation drive for helping organizations in our community that supply food, clothing and materials for school children.
Each grade will have a collection box and is assigned what to bring. The students will also sort the materials and prepare them for the donation. Nice way to pay it forward and teach our students that helping others can happen at any age.
Do you have any old instruments laying around the house and you are not sure what to do with them? Why not donate them to the Reservoir High Tri-M Music Honor Society?
