Hammond Middle's robotics team Cherry Pi scores a win [North Laurel/Savage]

Way to go Cherry Pi! Hammond Middle School had two teams enter the First Lego League Robotics Tournament. One team named Cherry Pi won first place in the Overall Champions Award category and will be moving on to the state competition on March 1. That will be held at UMBC.

To enter the contest, teams must focus on problem solving using creativity and analytical thinking. Then in September, teams are given a challenge and eight weeks to research, brainstorm, design and build a fully autonomous robot.

Cherry Pi team members are Billy Bott, Miles Callahan, Geo Im, Garrett Kelly, Swathi Krithivasan, Harrison Morrill, Daniela Ruiz Perez and Arjun Trivedi. The team coaches are Robyn Page and Chris Doody.

Middle Schools in our area have been involved in a redistricting. We will have some students moving from their schools next year. All schools involved want to make this a smooth transition for the students and families and have been working together towards that goal. Parent Orientation Nights have been scheduled at several of the middle schools. All meetings will be held at the school.

Patuxent Middle will be a meeting for rising seventh and eighth graders on Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. They will also hold meeting on Feb. 27 for rising sixth graders. Hammond Middle will hold its meeting for rising seventh and eighth graders on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. and a meeting for rising sixth graders on Feb. 26 at 7.

Lake Elkhorn Middle will hold its rising seventh and eighth graders on Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. and for rising sixth graders on Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Thomas Viaduct Middle will hold their meeting for rising seventh and eighth graders on Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. and for rising sixth graders on Deb. 27 at 6:30 p.m.

Welcome back to Reservoir High School, Karen Wolf, known to the kids as Dr. Wolf, who has taught at Reservoir since it opened and has been out with injuries received from a fall. She is now back at school and is grateful for all the get well wishes she has received. She has been missed.

Happy Birthday to Chris McCullough on Jan.30. Also very Happy Birthday goes out to Patti FitzGerald and Dennis Schrader on Feb. 3.

I would be more than happy to wish any of your loved ones a Happy Birthday, if you send me an email at least two weeks before.
