Call to ban corporate political donations ignores unions [Letter]

Would-be Democratic delegate Adam Sachs would ban contributions to political campaigns by corporations and their political action committees (PACs) — but, apparently not by labor unions, which almost invariably get their campaign funds from forced union dues and which almost invariably contribute to Democrats, or their PACs.

The slogan "corporations are not people" ignores the fact that they are associations of people who band together to bring us the goods and services we need and want.

As for political action committees, when all is said and done, they are simply groups of people who band together to pool their time, energy and resources to support candidates and/or issues with which they agree, and to oppose those they disagree with.

Mr. Sachs, please explain to us what is wrong with this in the first place.

Thomas M. Crawford
