Racing canceled at Laurel Park due to changing temperatures

Officials at Laurel Park have canceled racing events Saturday because of weather conditions.

"With the temperature going from the single digits early in the week to nearly 60 today, the track has been freezing, thawing and freezing again," Maryland Jockey Club Director of Racing Georganne Hale said. "The combination of the freezing and the moisture are the contributing factors. We couldn't even get a piece of equipment out on the track. They were just sinking."

The temperature changes have also been causing problems off the track, bursting pipes and creating potholes along roads. Laurel officials said racing would resume on Wednesday with a post time of 12:35 p.m..
