The Howard County Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the school system’s health and wellness policy during the 7:30 p.m. session of its meeting Thursday, April 11.
The revised policy, presented to the board last month, was met with some criticism from those who served on the drafting committee, and from the Horizon Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving health in Howard County. Critics said that while the changes to the policy were good, the school system should be doing better when it comes to nutritional food options in the school building and at recess time.
A vote on the policy is expected May 9 at a session in which During the 7:30 p.m. session, the board also will also have public hearings on the policies regarding student discipline and student enrollment.
Those who wish to testify are asked to limit their presentations to three minutes, and provide 15 written copies of their testimony at the hearing. To sign up in advance, contact the board’s office at 410-313-7194 by the close of business Thursday.
