Howard County schools win transparency award for website

The Howard County Public School System has won a Sunny Award for transparency from the Sunshine Review for its website,, the system announced last week.

Howard County is one of only two Maryland school system to receive the honor, and one of only 247 out of 7,000 government websites nationwide ranked by the nonprofit organization to earn a Sunny Award.

The Sunshine Review collects and shares information about state and local governments, and compares content available on websites versus what should be provided.

This includes information on budgets, meetings, lobbying, financial audits, contracts, academic performance, public records and taxes. Howard County’s website received an “A” during the grading process.
