Parking Lot B in downtown Ellicott City will be closed beginning Monday, April 22, for the reconstruction of a retaining wall adjacent to the CSX railroad tracks.
The lot, along the Patapsco River at the lower end of Main Street, is expected to be closed for four months while the wall is rebuilt. The project is expected to be completed in early August.
The existing wall was damaged during the Aug. 20 train derailment, which took the lives of two Ellicott City teenagers. While CSX and the county have completed repairs since the accident, work on the retaining wall was left until the spring.
"We apologize for any inconvenience that might be caused by this projects," Howard County Executive Ken Ulman said in a statement. 'We are working with CSX so that construction is completed as quickly as possible and we can get Ellicott City back to normal fast."
Construction will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on most weekdays.
