Andrew Sontag, a seventh-grader at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Ellicott City, recently collected 1,067 new and used children’s DVDs from OLPH classmates, school officials said last week.
The DVDs will go to KidFlicks, an international charity founded in 2002 that has distributed more than 68,100 DVDs to 681 hospitals, with the goal of providing every children’s hospital and pediatric department in the country with a KidFlicks movie library.
“The hospital can be a scary place for children and their favorite movie can make them feel just a little bit closer to home,” said Andrew, who said movies helped him pass the time while visiting hospitalized family members.
“This is precisely what we love to see in our students,” said Sandy McHugh, outreach representative at the preK-8 Catholic school. “Andrew is taking initiative, inspiring his classmates and living out the call to serve that we learn about every day at OLPH.”
