Man charged in theft of Main Street candy shop

An Ellicott City man has been charged in connection with the burglary of an candy shop on Main Street after being discovered by a real estate agent burglarizing another residence, according to Howard County Police.

Wayne Weldon Blackwell, 25, of the 9900 block of Frederick Road, is charged with fourth-degree burglary in connection with a theft from Sweet Cascade's Candy Shop on Saturday, Feb. 23.

According to police, the burglar entered the business in between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. by throwing a rock through the glass doorway of the candy shop.

Once inside, the burglar stole cash from the register, a jar containing money and a laptop computer, police said.

The next day, police arrested Blackwell after a real estate agent found a man matching his description inside a residence in the 3600 block of Fels Lane.

Police said they found property from the candy shop robbery on Blackwell's person.
